Kemana Arah Tuju Kita .....


Kemana Kita Salepas ini….

Kita sekarang sudah memasuki 1434Hijrah dan seterus nya ketahun baru 2013…persolan nya kemana kita salepas ini …kemana hala tuju kita ….
Cuba kita fikirkan siapakah yang akan memperjuangkan hak-hak kita sebagai Radio Amatur oleh yang demikian  perlu ada satu badan  yang  perlu memikul tanggungjawab ini.

Apa yang penulis lihat disini ialah banyak persatuan yang tidak mengutarakan masalah yang kita hadapi sekarang ini, bukan nya kelemahan yang kita cari tapi kita perlu menyurakan pendapat kita melalui persatuan atau kelab dan kita semua harus sepakat, carilah  solusi nya….kita perlukan perubahan…..kita harus ciptakan perubahan dan kebaikan.

Penulis kurang faham mengapa masih ada lagi sebahagian dari kita yang berfikiran cetek tidak mahu menerima pembahruan mengapa tidak kita semua bersatu kearah sesuatu yang baik. Salah satu masalah pada orang kita hari ini ialah kita melihat Sape Yang Buat contohnya  jika seseorang itu dia tak suka…apa bende dia buat pun walaupun kebaikan yang dibuat mereka  tak nak ikut sebab dia melihat pada individu tapi jika sekiranya individu itu dia suka walaupun bende yang tak baik dibuat nya individu ini akan menyokong nya… Mengapa tidak kita ubah cara kita berfikir mengapa tidak kita bertindak begini “Tengok apa yang disebut Bukan Tengok Orang Yang Menyebut….”
Lagi satu kenapa kita tidak bersatu…ketepi lah soal peribadi.

Kita mesti akui adanya perbezaan pendapat namun….ianya harus berpandukan dengan ilmu dan kefahaman, yang penting disini. Jadilah Ejen Pembahruan ….amalan positif memaparkan akhlak yang baik

Apabila tidak bersatu maka sukar bagi kita untuk berbuat sesuatu………Dari pengalaman penulis.. Apa yang penulis lihat ialah “Kita kurang matang dalam menyelsaikan sesuatu masalah……” Salah satu sebabnya saperti yang penulis sebutkan tadi kita tidak bersatu.

Ini semua adalah penyakit  HATI….

Sikap Ego pada diri kita lah yang menyebabkan kita berpecah belah…..masing2 ingin menunjukan siapa yang hebat….tampa merasakan sikap tanggung jawab untuk membantu kearah yang baik demi kebaikan masa depan Radio Amatur. Pada umumnya majoriti dari kalangan kita adalah muslim.....marilah kita sama-sama praktikan apa yang terkandung dalam Al-Quraan.....

Dan hendaklah ada diantara kamu satu golongan yang mengajak kearah kebaikan, menegakan yang makruf  dan mencegah kemungkaran dan mereka adalah golongan yang beroleh kejayaan.

RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE - RFI & THE "WOODPECKER"



The purpose of this writeup is to outline some sources of interference: explain how to eleminate or reduce them and tells you how to protect yourself againts RFI. Remember all cases of RFI involve two things the source of the interference and the victim of the interference.

Generally speaking aside from thunderstorms and lightning static, most interferance is man- made and can be located and suppressed. The problem is finding the source and than applying the remedy. That's not so easy RFI may originate within your own home, within your neighbor's house, from nearby utility lines, or from unknown a thousand kilometers away. Bare in mind RFI problems are found every day as our world becomes more complex and as we invent electronic "black boxes" to perform new task for us.

What does RFI means? Radio frequency interference is a broad term that covers any type of electrical signal capable of being propagated into and interfering with, the proper operation of other electrical or electronic equipment. Another term for RFI is electromagnetic interference (EMI) this latter term is much favored by the military. But both terms, in essence, mean the same thing. As already mentioned RFI can originated in almost anything that uses electricity or that is conected to a power line.

Natural Sources of Interference
Added to the unholy din of man made RFI must be the natural sources of radio noise: static, lightning, atmospheric hiss, radio noise from outer space, and the noise generated by the movement of electrons in the heart of all the elctronic equipment. In short, our world is filled with RFI both natural and man made and as our culture advances, the level will increase-unless something is done about it now.

Noise limit the usefull operating range of all radio equipment. Aside from man made noise, natural radio noise, natural radio noise is all around us. A major source of atmospheric noise (statistic) is a belt of continuous lightning activity around the equator from which interference is propagated toward the rest of the world by ionospheric reflection . Thunder-storms in the temperate zones creat additional radio noise : the overall noise level depends upon frequency, time of day, season of the year and geographical location.

A second sourse of natural interference is galactic noise from outer space. A major generator of galatic noise is the sun and variuos star group have been indentified as radio noise source. Precipitation static is often found in the HF spectrum during a heavy rainstorm, showing up as a loud hiss in the radio receiver or as "snow" on the screen of TV set. It is caused by static electricity building up on trhe receiving antenna. Finally there is a low level of thermal noise in all electrical equipment caused by the thermal agitation of electrons in conductors.

All of these noise sources, plus man made noise, form a "noise floor" in the communication spectrum below which the sesitivity of the communication equipment is restricted. And in a long run, a receiver's ultimate sensitivity, in the absence of man made noise, is determind by natural noise.

The "WOODPECKER"
High Frequency radio communication has been plagued during the past years with an annoying form of man-made interference termed the woodpecker. The interference consists of a series of rapid pulses that ocupy large spectrum. The pulses are extremely powerful and seeming move about at random, knocking out communications over a wide swath frequencies. Examination of the the pulses has led to the conclusion that they are generated by a variable frequency backscater radar system located in the Soviet Union. The purpose of that radar, it is assumed, is to detect the launch of intercontinental ballastic missiles.The system seems to have two transmitters located in the Ukraineand Siberia that transmit pulses over the North Pole towrds the United States. The reflected pulses provide information on ionized trails left by the launch of a surface missile.At present the woodpecker have not heard through the HF spectrum. We never know what will happen next.

An RF Noise Source - The Spack Discharge
A partial list of equipment capable of creating RFI, particularly of the Spack discharge type is given above. You can think of other devices which fit this category.In addition to the spack discharge, there are two other classes of RF noise generators : the electrostatic discharge and the RF oscillator. Radio transmitters are included in this last class. Each class of noise has its own pecularities and leave its own unique "noise print" a fact that is helpfull in tracking down the source. Lets examine these sources starting with spark discharge which is common to all neighborhoods. A natural discharge is a lightning stroke. A good example of usefull spark discharge is the ignition system and spark plugs in gasoline motor.
The charecteristic sound associated with spark discharge may variously be describe as a buzzing rasping, popping noise similar to bacon frying in a pan. Spark discharge seen on the TV screen appears as a band of horizontal dot-dash

Ok nows lets look into how to cure the noise.
Ok example if you install your VHF/HF rig inside your car. There is no problem when the engine is off. But if you have a problems when your engine is on example the receiver will pickup a noise wiiiigg.....wingggg....and its becomes louder if you press your excelerator. Check all the connections tighten all the connections at the battery terminals, your lines fuse..supply together with your VHF rig. And if the noice is still there its time to service your alternator the carbon brush at the alternator maybe needs to be replace or your alternator needs to be service. If you have a problem when you turn on your Air Cond in your car what you can do is just install a capacitor 0.001uF at the Condenser Fan which is located near your Radiator.

For those who works from base station make sure you have a good grounding system and avoid using a cheap type switching power supply. You may also install a line filter at your AC line. If you have space you can install a QUAD or a LOOP antenna this will help you to reduce the noise level.

Ganguan Kepada Alat HF Anda

Baru-baru ini penulis berjumpa dengan beberapa rakan yang baru beberapa tahun mendapat AA kelas A. Semasa mereka membuat expidisi Dxing mereka ada membawa bersama mereka generator set dan juga battery 12VDC. Bersama mereka juga mereka membawa LED Flood Light dll.


Mereka menyatakan bahawa LED light tersebut memberi “QRM” kepada alat receiver HF. Perkara ini di ajukan kepada penulis bagaimana membuang ganguan berkenaan sebab mereka cuba pasangkan grounding system dengan menanam copper rod lebih kurang 2 kaki kedalam bumi namun ganguan berkenaan masih lagi ada.


Penulis pun ada memiliki beberapa buah lampu LED namun ianya tidak memberi apa2 ganguan pada alat HF mengapa pula rakan-rakan lain mengatakan LED light yang mereka gunakan memberi ganguan pada alat HF mereka? Jawapan nya mudah sebenarnya bukan LED light yang memberi ganguan pada alat HF kita….apa yang terjadi pada rakan2 kita tadi ialah mereka menggunakan lampu LED yang di Connect terus ke soket 240V AC. Sebenarnya ganguan kepada alat HF datang dari AC/DC converter yang terdapat pada Lampu LED berkenaan….DC supply yang datang bersama lampu LED tersebut ‘not fully regulated” ini menyebakan terdapatnya ganguan pada alat HF. Apa yang penulis gunakan ialah LAMPU LED yang di sambung terus ke DC Voltage. Oleh yang demikian adalah disarankan kalau anda inginj membeli lampu LED sila belikan lampu yang voltan nya adalah 12VDC dan bukan nya 240VAC.

Beberapa tahun yang lalu ada rakan-rakan yang buat Dexpedition di sebuah pulau mereka menyatakan terdapat banyak “QRM” pada alat HF sehingga menyukarkan bagi mereka operate di 80M,40m dan 20m dan 15M. Pada hari terakhir baru mereka ketahui “QRM” tersebut datang nya dari Battery Charger Hand Phone. Ya memang benar penulis telah beberapa kali buat kajian mengenai perkara ini sejak dari tahun 2000 lagi dimana banyak power supply di pasaran menggunakan “Switching Power Supply” dan penulis dapati majoriti dari power supply jenis ini tidak mengikut “Standard” yang di tetapkan. Dimasa ini terdapat banyak power supply jenis ini Antaranya  yang terdapat pada  laptop anda, PC, dan battery charger untuk Hand Phone anda. Hati-hati apabila membeli switching power supply dari pengalaman penulis switching power supply yang murah dipasaran memberi banyak ganguan kepada alat HF kita. Untuk mengelakan dari ganguan kepada alat HF kita Pilihlah ‘switching power supply” dari jenama2 yang terkenal.Suka juga  penulis nyatakan disini ganguan di 10 meter band tidak lah sehebat di lower band saperti di 80m/40m/ itu sebabnya jika tuan-tuan monitor di upper band kurang "noise" di bandingkan di lower band.....

Apa Pentingnya SEJARAH?


Kenapa sejarah?  Apa pentingnya sejarah? 
Mungkin bagi sebahagian orang, sejarah tidak menjadi focus of interest mereka.. Padahal ada nilai besar dari orang-orang yang memahami makna sejarah.

Secara umum definisi sejarah adalah sesuatu yang terjadi di masa lalu. Sadar ataupun tidak, masing-masing manusia sebenarnya sedang mengukir sejarah atas nama mereka sendiri. Apa yang kita lakukan saat ini akan menjadi sejarah untuk dikenang orang lain di masa mendatang.

Dalam peribahasa kita sering mendengar atau membaca kalimat “bangsa yang besar adalah bangsa yang mengenal sejarahnya sendiri” atau “belajarlah dari sejarah para pendahulu.”

Ternyata dari definisi sejarah itu sendiri sudah mampu memberikan fungsi seorang guru. Memberikan pelajaran dari pengalaman-pengalaman si pelaku sejarah, untuk dapat kita ilham dan ambil hikmah dari sesuatu yang sudah terjadi. Jika sejarah itu merupakan kejadian baik, maka patut kita teladani, dan apabila kejadian itu buruk, maka patut jua kita ketahui agar kejadian buruk tersebut tidak terjadi kepada diri kita sendiri.

Bahkan untuk menambah ilmu dan pengetahuan, kita dianjurkan untuk banyak membaca buku. Semakin banyak membaca, maka semakin kaya pengetahuan. Akan tetapi, berapa banyak orang yang sedar bahawa buku itu adalah sejarah pemikiran, pengetahuan dan pengalaman dari si penulis? Dengan kata lain setiap buku merupakan sejarah si penulis buku tersebut.
Subhanallah makna “sejarah” tersebut bagi kita.

Oleh karena itu, di dalam ajaran agama islam, kita sebagai umat pun dianjurkan untuk mempelajari sejarah. Hal ini terdapat di dalam Al Quran surat An Nuur ayat 34:
ولقد أنزلنا إليكم آيات مبينات ومثلا من الذين خلوا من قبلكم وموعظة للمتقين
Dan sesungguhnya Kami telah menurunkan kepada kamu ayat-ayat yang memberi penerangan, dan contoh-contoh dari orang-orang yang terdahulu sebelum kamu dan pelajaran bagi orang-orang yang bertakwa. (An-Nuur:34)

Jika pagi datang, orang yang lalai akan berpikir apa yang harus dikerjakannya. Sedangkan orang yang berakal akan berpikir apa yang akan dilakukan Allah padanya” (Ibnu Athaillah)
 
Lalu apakah kita sebagai umat muslim juga akan lalai dalam mengukir sejarah kita sebagai manusia?

What's Wrong With Ham Radio? It's Brain Dead!!

Ham radio is brain dead. How did that happen ? Well, it's a long story, but I'll see if I can explain it to you. Amateur radio operators today can be basically subdivided into two groups - Clueless Newbies and Brain Dead Old Farts. Well three groups really, there's the Died In The Wool Pee In A Bucket Under The Desk Contest Fraternity, but we'll save them for another discussion, because thankfully they only show up on major contest weekends. So let's take a look at our two basic groups.

Clueless Newbies. Ham radio has always had Clueless Newbies, but they weren't as prevalent and as obvious as they have become in the last few years. And we also don't deal with Clueless Newbies in the same manor that we used deal with them. Before The War, they were still considered hams. We'd take them under our wing, teach them what we knew, help them set up their first station or erect their first antenna, and coach them as they entered the ranks of amateur radio. But now The War is over and we don't do that anymore. Now we ridicule them, and try to maintain the division that was created by The War.

How did these Clueless Newbies get into ham radio, and why are they here ? That's a very difficult question to answer. How they got in is easy - they took the test and passed, so they became licensed. Why they got in is the hard part - why would somebody who knows nothing about electronics, nothing about radio, nothing about communications, and has no intention of purchasing a radio want a ham license ? I dunno. It seems like a majority of the Clueless Newbies do indeed fall into that category. There are a few, I would imagine, that are like the Clueless Newbies of yesteryear - they are really interested, and they'll either learn things on their own or be lucky enuff to find a Brain Dead Old Fart who is willing to help them out. Most of them, I fear, will continue to do what they are doing now - wallow around the Internet, between one 'discussion forum' and another, arguing with the Brain Dead Old Farts they can find to argue with, and checking into the "Ham Radio Traders Net" on ILink with a six dollar plastic microphone connected to a computer sound card, pretending they are playing ham radio. So why'd these Clueless Newbies get in ? I can only guess that the basic reason they got in is because it's become so EASY to get in. I've heard a few other reasons, one I can elaborate on, but basically because it's EASY would be my guess.

In Saipan, KH0 land, if you bang around the Internet a bit, you'll find a 'ham club' with 50 or 60 members. But you probably won't recognize any of the call signs, and if you go looking around in the DX cluster, you'll find that none of them have ever been spotted on HF even though the majority of them have Extra class licenses, and HF privileges. I KNOW why they are hams - somebody started a rumor that when the FCC comes banging at your door, they won't take away that linear amplifier that you've been using on 11 meters IF you have a ham ticket. So they all went and got one. It was EASY. REAL easy. Three of their buddies just formed a VE group......

The fact that some Clueless Newbies will remain Clueless Newbies isn't really all their fault. It's amateur radio's fault as a whole, but after The War, that's just the ways things have to be. When it comes to amateur radio, most Clueless Newbies are brain dead. Ask one sometime to explain what a dipole is, or how to construct one and you'll see what I mean. Most Clueless Newbies in ham radio today are SO clueless that they have to ask fifty five question on six different YAHOO! groups to figure out how to hook up that six dollar plastic sound card microphone so they can talk to somebody on 'ham radio'. Clueless Newbies are Brain Dead. So we move on to our next group....

Brain Dead Old Farts. Boy are there a bunch of those kind of hams around still. How do you identify a Brain Dead Old Fart? Does he talk about DX all the time? Does he complain about sending Green Stamps to La La Land and not getting a post card back fast enuff? Is he constantly searching for addresses to send his post cards to? Can he tell you off the top of his head how many confirmed kills he has on each of nine HF bands and rattle off a list of what he still needs to be on the Honor Roll? Does he spit violently at any Clueless Newbie who comes within range of his saliva? If the answer to those questions is a resounding YES, then you've found one. A Brain Dead Old Fart.

Brain Dead Old Farts could also be classified as Post Card Collectors. Amateur radio is nothing to them but merely a quest to fill old shoe boxes with post cards. Sadly, since Brain Dead Old Farts are about the only ones you'll find on HF anymore, that's what the HF amateur bands have become, and what amateur radio on HF is all about - post cards. Brain Dead Old Farts embrace technology - as long as it helps them get new post cards.

Gone are the days when you'd find intelligent conversations (about subjects other than QSL info) on the amateur HF bands. Sure, you'll still find Fred, and Charlie, and Bill, on the same frequency they've been on every Thursday morning for the last 22 years, checking in to see who's hemorrhoids got bigger last nite. But tune around and see how many hams you find having a CONVERSATION with another ham. A conversation about pets, a conversation about fishing, a conversation about travel, a conversation about fruit trees, a conversation about ANYTHING but Post Cards or "How's My Audio Sound Tonite". Not many. Probably none. HF is brain dead. Why? My guess is that all the NORMAL people - not the Brain Dead Old Farts and the occasional Clueless Newbie you'll find on HF - gave up and found something better to do than ham radio.

So how do we fix this mess? I'm afraid we don't. At least I haven't got any quick easy fixes. And I'm afraid I'd have to say at this point that I really feel that ham radio is done - stick a fork in it.

Oh yeah. The War. I almost forgot to tell you about The War. If you've been a ham for a few years, or a CB'er for a few years, you know about The War. The war to rid the world of the Evil Morse Code. The war was fought fiercely by two different groups - the 'No Coders' and the 'Coders'. The 'No Coders' said that Morse code was a violation of their civil rights, and they beat the doors down at the FCC writing petitions and making speeches. The 'Coders' said that removing the Morse code was a terrible idea, because it lowered our 'standards' and allowed those slimy CB'ers into our ranks. But the 'Coders' didn't do such a good job of beating the doors down at the FCC and making speeches, because most of them were too busy chasing post cards. So the 'No Coders' won. They had better leadership, like Ready To Make A Buck Freddy, W5YI. The only leadership the 'Coders' had was the ARRL - a radio club in Newington, Connecticut that used to have political influence with the FCC but doesn't any more. The 'Coders' made the mistake of thinking the ARRL was taking care of business, but in reality they were busy hoping back and forth across the fence trying to keep magazine subscribers (and their jobs).

So who really won the war? The 'NoCoders' did. And who lost the war? Amateur radio did. Amateur radio was so deeply divided by the war that it will never again be the same. Brain Dead Old Farts will continue to collect post cards and continue to spit on Clueless Newbies whenever one gets close enuff to spit on until the day arrives when all the Brain Dead Old Farts have become Silent Keys. Clueless Newbies will continue to pester people on YAHOO! groups until they learn about six dollar plastic microphones and sound cards, but they will never gain the knowledge about amateur radio thru the one on one "Elmering" system that so many of us were fortunate enuff to have available back in the days when we were Clueless Newbies. Amateur radio is DIVIDED. Deeply divided. And it was badly scarred by the war. And those scars will never heal completely.

Today's Clueless Newbies don't want anything to do with Brain Dead Old Farts. And vice versa. So to sum it up:

United we stand. Divided we fell.

Will there still be amateur radio 50 years from now? Maybe. But I doubt you'd recognize it. They'll be no more tests for licenses, just fill out a form on the Internet to get one. They'll be a few VHF or UHF frequencies still available for the slim number of 'hams' that chose buy a radio and to use it, but most of the frequencies will be gone - taken by wireless commercial networks for this and that. You'll check into the ham chat room on the Internet - no radio required. It will have gotten so hard to find a place where you can live that you can put up and HF antenna that finally ham radio will just give up on HF too. PRB-1. Right. Pretty Real Baloney.

Will I be sad to see it go? No, not really. First of all, I won't be here in 50 years :-) And it's already gone as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to talk to Clueless Newbies in chat rooms on the Internet - even if we do ID every 10 minutes, that's not really ham radio to me. I don't want to give signal reports to post card chasers on HF only to have them become upset when they find out I'm not in Guam, I'm in Florida. There hasn't been any 'new technology' in ham radio for as long as I can remember. So I guess I'm happy to say good-bye.

Clueless Newbies are brain dead - they're so busy being happy about winning The War that they'll never realize what they won and take advantage of it.

Brain Dead Old Farts are brain dead - they're so busy collecting post cards and spitting on Clueless Newbies that they don't realize the hobby they love so dearly is going to die with them.

KITA BILA LAGI??????


New 60 Meter Privileges Now In Effect

Effective today, US amateurs have new privileges on the 60 meter band. In addition to an increase in effective radiated power from 50 to 100 W, hams can now transmit CW and PSK31 on the following channel-center frequencies:
Channel 1: 5332.0 kHz
Channel 2: 5348.0 kHz
Channel 3: 5358.5 kHz
Channel 4: 5373.0 kHz
Channel 5: 5405.0 kHz
Amateurs can also transmit Upper Sideband voice and PACTOR III on the following suppressed carrier frequencies (the frequencies typically shown on transceiver displays):
Channel 1: 5330.5 kHz
Channel 2: 5346.5 kHz
Channel 3: 5357.0 kHz
Channel 4: 5371.5 kHz
Channel 5: 5403.5 kHz

Typhoon wreaks havoc on Korea

As the powerful storm Typhoon Bolaven battered South Korea radio amateurs joined the response and recovery efforts to minimise the toll and damage.


The state disaster management agency reported deaths as the storm, the strongest to hit the country for almost a decade, left nearly 200,000 homes without power and property damage.
From the Korean Amateur Radio League, Yong-Surke Lee HL1FB said the 2-metre repeater D90IK on a 535m high mountain with coverage of at least 100km was used for emergency communication on the day the storm hit.

Lee said "The control station 6K2BUF was in charge as the effort was maintained. Operators were able to contact stations to get the disaster information relayed and report them to the authority.
"Some areas had power outage so battery operated 2m radios were used. DS2HBX went up to  the repeater site and had a gasoline engine generator ready in case for power outage."

There were media reports of widespread damage this week in the less prepared North Korea.
While South Korea is engaged in a big clean up a close watch is being kept should another storm Typhoon Tembin which was moving over the Yellow Sea.
